Gran Inauguración del Centro Justo González para Ministerios Hispanos, en Orlando, Florida.
El pasado viernes 21 de octubre el Dr. Justo González y su esposa, Dra. Katherine Gunsalus González, cortaron la cinta con la que oficialmente se inauguró el Centro Justo Gonzalez para Ministerios Hispanos, localizado en el campus del Seminario Teológico de Asbury en Orlando, Florida. A este acto simbólico, le siguieron un culto de celebración en el que predicó el Rev. Stan Perea (Director Ejecutivo de AETH), un banquete en el que el orador fue el Dr. Michael Gilligan (Presidente de la Fundación Henry Luce), y un fórum sobre el tema Preparando líderes Hispanos para la Iglesia del siglo XXI.
En todas estas actividades participaron más de 150 personas, entre ellas el director ejecutivo de la Asociación de Instituciones Teológicas (Dr. Daniel Aleshire), varios presidentes y decanos de seminarios, profesores y profesoras provenientes de instituciones teológicas de varias partes del país, líderes de distintas denominaciones cristianas de dentro y fuera de los Estados Unidos, directores e instructores de institutos bíblicos, y pastores y líderes de iglesias locales.
El Centro Justo González fue establecido por la Asociación para la Educación Teológica Hispana (AETH) con el propósito de proveer recursos teológicos, bíblicos y pastorales relevantes para el crecimiento y desarrollo del liderazgo de la iglesia hispana en los EEUU, Canadá y Puerto Rico. El Centro patrocina talleres de formación teológica y pedagógica así como foros sobre temas actuales para la misión de la iglesia hispana. Además, el Centro promueve el diálogo y la colaboración entre educadores teológicos, directores de instituciones de formación ministerial y pastores y pastoras de iglesias locales. El Centro Justo González busca constituirse en uno de los principales catalizadores en la creación de una educación teológica alternativa que no solo responda al rápido crecimiento de la población Hispano/Latina en los EEUU sino que, además, sea transformadora de la misión de las iglesias hispanas y de la realidad que les rodea.
El Centro lleva el nombre en honor al Dr. Justo L. González, quien es miembro fundador de AETH, ha sido una de las voces Hispanas más influyentes en el quehacer teológico nacional y mundial, y sigue siendo un escritor, mentor y un promotor de la educación teológica hispana. Orlando, FL, October 26, 2011 – On Friday October 21st Dr. Justo González and his wife, Dr. Catherine Gunsalus González, cut the ribbon that officially inaugurated the opening of the Justo L González Center, housed at the Florida campus of Asbury Theological Seminary.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, there was a worship service where Rev. Stan Perea, Executive Director of the Association for Hispanic Theological Education (AETH), preached a sermon under the theme The Shaping of Things to Come. Later, there was a banquet where Dr. Michael Gilligan, President of the Henry Luce Foundation, was the keynote speaker. The Center’s grand-opening activities concluded with a forum on Preparing Latino/a Leaders for the Church of the 21st Century. The moderator of the forum was Dr. Justo Gonzalez. The participants in the forum were Dr. Daniel Aleshire (Executive Director of ATS), Rev. Dr. Jesse Miranda (Executive Presbyter with the General Council of the Assemblies of God), Dr. Timothy C.Tennent (President of Asbury Theological Seminary), and Dr. Elizabeth Conde-Frazier (Academic Dean of Esperanza College, of Eastern University).
Over one hundred and fifty people participated throughout the activities. Among the present were seminary presidents and deans, theological professors from several theological institutions from around the country, directors and instructors of Bible institutes, denominational leaders from churches within the USA and from abroad, and pastors and lay leaders from different parts of Florida.
The Justo González Center was created by AETH with the purpose of providing biblical, theological and pastoral resources relevant for the growth and development of Hispanic church leaders in Canada, the USA and Puerto Rico. The Center promotes theological and pedagogical workshops as well as forums about urgent topics for Latino/a ministries. In addition, it fosters dialogue and collaboration among theological educators, directors of institutions of ministerial formation and pastors and church leaders. With this, the Center aims at becoming a major catalyst for the creation of an alternative way of theological education that is responsive to the rapid growth of the Hispanic population in the United States and, furthermore, that is vital for the transformation of the life and mission of the Hispanic churches and of the realities that surround them.
With its name, the Center honors Dr. Justo L. González, who was a founding member of AETH, who has become one of the most influential Hispanic voices in the national and international theological dialogue, and who continues to be a writer, mentor and promoter of Hispanic theological education.
The Justo González Center began its functions last April under the direction of Dr. Fernando A. Cascante, who also serves as the Director of Pastoral Formation and Leadership Development for AETH.
